The Bathhouse @ Astoria Park
The Astoria Park Pool, located in the heart of Queens, New York City, stands as a majestic testament to both architectural grandeur and community spirit. Built during the era of the Great Depression as part of the Works Progress Administration's ambitious projects, it emerged not just as a recreational oasis but as a symbol of resilience and hope for the local residents. With its Art Deco design and sprawling dimensions, the pool has drawn generations of swimmers, sun-seekers, and families seeking respite from the city's sweltering summers. Beyond its physical attributes, the pool embodies a profound sense of belonging and togetherness, serving as a cherished gathering place where memories are made and friendships forged. As it continues to stand the test of time, the Astoria Park Pool remains a timeless beacon of community pride and shared heritage.

The Bathhouse serves as a multi-seasonal addition to the Astoria Park Pool, addressing the issue of unused space during non-summer months. Alongside providing access to the main pool during the warmer seasons, it features cold, warm, and hot bath pools accessible year-round. Hospitality amenities such as a bar and restaurant are also incorporated, complete with automatic AI-guided robots vending drinks and food. The Bathhouse's innovative design includes a roof of hexagonal grid-shells with fiber membranes, capable of changing color based on sunlight and temperature, enhancing its aesthetic appeal and environmental responsiveness. The Bathhouse not only enhances the pool's functionality but also revitalizes it as a vibrant hub for leisure and relaxation throughout the year, ensuring its continued relevance and appeal to the community.
